UAE launches a blockchain technology to authenticate digital documents

The UAE has always been at the forefront of embracing and deploying groundbreaking technology due to its open-minded culture and readiness to diversify.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has launched a new platform called "UAE Verify" that uses blockchain technology, which is a shared immutable real-time ledger for recording the history of financial transactions, contracts, and other documents. This allows government and private entities to instantly verify the authenticity of digital documents issued by government authorities without the need for original hard copies. These directives were issued during the UAE government's annual meetings to prepare a development vision for the nation's future in the following fifty years. Users can transform their documents into authorized digital documents with a high level of privacy and security using the platform.

H.E. Eng. Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director General of the TDRA, said: "With this launch, we take a new important step on the path of comprehensive digital transformation using future technologies like blockchain. We are happy about this platform, which was the result of intensive cooperation between TDRA and many government entities that worked to serve the higher goals of the UAE government."

The UAE Verify digital platform was established as part of the Digital Government Roadmap 2021-2025 to achieve 100 percent digital government services in the UAE that are accessible to individuals, enterprises, and federal government employees. With the growing popularity of digital services and the need for secure data sharing, Digital Trusted Document and UAE VERIFY provide an easy, quick, and tamper-proof mechanism that aims to achieve six strategic and priority goals: provide a unified digital platform and common digital enablers; provide a world-class digital infrastructure; enable easy and quick integrated digital services tailored to meet clients' needs; upgrade digital capabilities and skills, to prepare legislation to ensure a seamless and holistic digital transformation; and to improve government efficiency.

As a Document Owner, users can request a "Digital Trusted Document" from VERIFY Partners' channel or through the UAE PASS app, according to the UAE verify website. Users will be able to share their documents with any third party via the various online channels accessible. Users that receive a "Digital Trusted Document" can upload the document to the UAE Verify Platform to verify its authenticity, integrity, and validity from the official source. Users can also use their UAE PASS app to validate the "Digital Trusted Document" by scanning the QR code offered by the document owner.
